Hi
I recently read a really interesting article by Hypnosis Downloads.com called Mental Health:Let's get back to basics on 11/10/2011 about improving mental health, which also discussed how it was possible to recover from even the most severest mental health conditions.
What was even more interesting was recent studies by the World Health Organization show that the rate of recovery from severe mental illness is much better in third world countries than in Western industrialized countries, which gave rise to the question are these other cultures better than ours at helping these people meet their needs to regain good mental health. It also challenged the idea that our culture had a greater degree of 'faulty brain chemistry' than these third world countries where depression is much less prevalent or non existent, and stated that it is more likely something about the way we are living which is creating greater rates of depression, fear, addiction and anxiety.
The article went on to state, 'People have both physical and emotional needs. The extent to which any of these needs are not met closely corresponds to how physically and mentally ill we become.
The Human Givens approach to health and wellbeing lists the needs we all have to meet in life if we want to stay healthy and thrive rather than just survive.
These needs include:
Security: You need to feel safe and secure and feel you have some safe territory. This might also include the need for privacy.
Sustenance: You need sufficient balanced nutrition, adequate physical exercise and regular good quality sleep to maintain your physical health.
Attention: You need to regularly give and receive quality attention.
Volition: You need to feel that you have some influence and control over your own life.
Emotional connection: You need to be connected to others through friendship, work relationships, loving relationships and physical intimacy.
Community: You need to feel part of something larger than yourself, a community of people.
Status: You need to have a sense of your standing with others, to feel you have a recognizable and valued role in life. This also connects to a sense of competence and achievement.
Achievement: You need to find activities and occupations that stimulate and stretch you, learning physical and mental skills and exploring and developing your potential.
Meaning: When these needs are adequately met then life feels meaningful and enjoyable.
The more fully a person’s needs are met, the more healthy their self esteem will be. '
I also agree with their thoughts that we need to stop looking at these people as being different from rest of us and instead see their distress as being a fully understandable aspect of being human.
Hope you enjoyed my blog today.

Dalai Lama Quote
Hi
Sometimes I think a lot, 'how can this be possible'. Since attending my weekly hypnosis class, I've discovered this is my conscious brain at play. Instead of accepting good things, I would always analyse why a good thing would happen and then perhaps prevent it from happening as my conscious brain couldn't understand why it was possible for it to happen. Crazy eh!!!! But that is what our conscious brains do, they like to analyse everything, which may hold you back from achieving your goals or dreams, if your conscious brain can't work it out and therefore can't accept it.
My other recurring thought which I had been having was, 'how could hypnosis possibly create long lasting permanent change, especially when someone has challenging deep ingrained negative programming, belief systems etc'. This may seem like a strange thought as I have personally benefited and watched many others benefit from hypnosis even when they are challenged by deep ingrained negative thought patterns, and then I found the quote below posted by Dalai Lama 26th September 2011 which answered my question and I thought I have to share this one.
Dalai Lama quote
'The nature of the mind is such that if certain mental qualities are developed on a sound basis they not only remain but they also increase. In fact, once properly developed the mind's good qualities eventually increase indefinitely. Therefore spiritual practice brings long term happiness and inner strength'
So it now makes sense to my critical brain (conscious brain) if a hypnotherapist installs new suggetions on a sound basis, not only will they remain but they also increase. Which has in fact happened to me, so I know this is a truth for me.
Anyway I'm sure many out there may of had the same question, and perhaps the answer I found may help in some way.
Hope you enjoyed my blog today.

Time Line Therapy Helps Overcome Trauma
Hi
I've just recently discovered Timeline Therapy which is an extremely powerful NLP technique, which helps you release the five main emotions anger, sadness, fear, hurt and guilt from your timeline (birth to present age).
A lot of people use this to overcome traumatic experiences, which also helps dissolve depression and anxiety.
Hope you enjoyed my quick post and I hope it may help someone else.

EMDR for Post Traumatic Stress
Hi
Thanks for checking out my blog. I had to write about EMDR which I have just recently trained in. This is a fantastic tool for releasing anxiety and panick attacks and any other related stress symptoms. This tool was created by Shapiro in the 1980's for war veteran's.
This technique uses the SUDS scale (1-10) and uses various eye movements used in a repetitive way to bring down anxiety/stress levels as you follow your Hypnotherapist's finger while thinking of traumatic event. To finish off the technique the new feeling of how you want to feel is established using different eye movents, and some stress relief hypnosis is used.
Personally I loved this technique and it definitely helped me with the fear of death I developed after going through 2 deaths of close family member's within a year. Obviously the right course for me, at the right time!
This technique has also been shown to reduce phobias/fears and cravings.
I do highly recommend as it is quick and effective.
I hope you enjoyed my post.

Breathing Technique to Deal With Stress
Hi
Since coming back from the Barefoot holiday I have since googled Barefoot Doctor on utube and found one of his techniques, to be really spot on to bring you back to centre within about a minute and a half. It's called the 'release negative thoughts technique' and involves taking 18 long slow deep breathes while holding your arms out, palms facing up, breathing out anything thats troubling you out of the back of your feet and breathing in any qualities that you need. I found this technique especially useful when someone dumps their stress on you. So I do recommend you google this exercise if you need to centre yourself quickly. I couldn't believe how much lighter I felt and the stress had melted away.
I have also been listening to Jim Fannin's 90 Second Rule audio book which also stipulates it takes a minute and a half to react, and if you practice deep breathing for a minute and a half while smiling, this brings you back to centre and increases feel good factor endorphins due to smiling while deep breathing.
I've never been into breathing techniques but I have been truly impressed with these 2 techniques and the short time of a minute and a half to bring you back to a better place.
So why not give them a try.

Getting Yourself Unstuck
Hi
Thanks for checking out my blog today. I have not blogged for sometime now, since October last year in fact, as I was feeling like I was increasingly getting stuck on all levels with everything. The good news is I've managed to get myself unstuck and look forward to blogging regularly again.
First I have to tell you what I did to unblock myself. My tool for getting myself unblocked was a Barefoot Doctor holiday based in Italy where you can book from www.hillthatbreathes.com. This was the most incredible holiday I've ever been on, I often think it was a holiday sent from heaven as it was such a great experience.
There was maybe about 25 people who all appeared from all different backgrounds and we all gelled immediately to have the most fantastic holiday. Everyone's story helped me in some way and it was just a fantastic group of people to have met who were such fun. I have never laughed so hard every day for a long time.
The Barefoot Doctor was the most amazing guy who had a great sense of humour, although extremely serious about his craft and brought his teachings of thai chi, healing sounds for the organs, meditation and a wealth of self mastery knowledge to blow you away at each of his classes. We got classes twice a day for 6 days (4 hours a day). I just felt like I had come home, all his teaching resonated with me on a huge level and I'm still practicing his exercises since I got home and they are fantastic life skills to prevent you siezing up with the stress of every day life.
Barefoot likes to talk throughout his exercises explaining why you are doing the exercise and this is when he is passing on his years of wisdom which was brill. None of the exercises were too difficult and even the people on the course with impaired movement were more flexible by the end of the holiday and could do these exercises.
The meditations were masterpieces which everyone loved. One was connecting the heart to the brain for when you feel conflicted and your heart says one thing and brain says the other. You can ask any question and he tries to incorporate something in his class to help.
This holiday is also very good for getting rid of emotional baggage and I saw everyone transform over the week including myself.
All I can say is if I had enough money I would be sending everyone I know on one of these holidays as it is maximum fun while learning important life skills. The Barefoot is a one of a kind a very beautiful soul and a very funny soul at the same time who showered us all with his kindnessand love but in a manly way as he is a man's man. He won me over that's for sure as he did with everyone else.
The Hill was beautiful and offered other alternative treatments while we were there. I tried the Prana wash which was lovely and very relaxing. John and Gaia were lovely and we had a tea party with Gaia mid week which was fun.
Anyway if you feel stuck do get yourself on one of these holidays.
Hope you enjoyed my blog.

Why Are You Repeating Negative Patterns?
Hi
Today I want to talk to you about repeating mental patterns and why they happen.
We are a fully programmed being. We learn all our programmes and belief systems growing up and we learn these largely from our parents, guardians and teachers. These programmes are held in the subconscious which go on to form our habits.
So what if happens if you had a load of negative programming as you grew up. Chances are there will be repeating negative patterns that keep repeating no matter how hard you try to break them and these patterns will most likely make you very unhappy as they are conflicting with your conscious mind, the free will mind.
So it could be a case you want a happy successful relationship with your partner but all you saw when you were growing up was warring couples. Chances are you may have problems having a happy relationship and if you do get one, you won't appreciate it and do everything you can to sabotage your own happiness. The subconscious is usually way stronger than the conscious, (free will mind), especially when you have an ingrained negative belief (say couples are always unhappy and arguing) which then becomes your mental habit which you will subconsciously go on to recreate in your own life and have no idea why you keep attracting unhappy relationships.
So what can you do to free yourself of recurring negative patterns. I have put together a free downloadable audio meditation, releasing you from ingrained negative beliefs, blocks, fears, habits from each of your energy centres (chakras) which will help you to rebalace your emotions at http://www.happyhealthymind.co.uk/. So go and get your FREE download audio now and bust those negative patterns to unleash a happier new you now.
